The greater the height from which the drop of blood is dripped, the larger the average diameter of the splatter.

The greater the angle of impact, the greater the theoretical angle of impact.

How were these splatters formed?

Near to the surface. If it were to be far away, then the splatter would be rounder.

From a distance. And for multiple times at the same spot, causing some droplets to splatter at the sides.

At an angle. The direction the tail is going towards is the direction the splatter was....splattered. In this case, it would be from right to left, unless the photo was tilted or turned.
